New "Titanfall" Games in the Works for Mobile

Respawn on Thursday announced a multi-game, multi-year partnership with free-to-play gaming giant Nexon (which is also publishing Cliff Bleszinski's Lawbreakers) for new mobile games based on the "Titanfall" franchise.

Vietgame.asia - The smartphone and tablet Titanfall games are being developed by new LA-based studio Particle City, which was co-founded this year by Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella and industry veteran Larry Pacey. Nexon will publish the Titanfall mobile games worldwide; the first is slated to arrive for iOS and Android devices in 2016.

“Working closely with our partners at Respawn and Particle City we intend to build on the original game’s success and introduce millions of mobile gamers to the rich Titanfall universe," Nexon president and CEO Owen Mahoney said in a statement.

Nexon was already working with Respawn, as it previously reached a deal with the company and Electronic Arts to bring a free-to-play version of Titanfall for PC to Asia. Respawn first talked about making free-to-play mobile games in December 2014.

"Our partnership with Nexon is momentous for many reasons," Zampella said. "Nexon's unrivaled publishing network and free-to-play expertise will allow Titanfall to reach new global audiences. And with Particle City, we are closely collaborating to create all-new standalone games with original gameplay experiences that expand the Titanfall universe to players everywhere."

There are no details yet about what form the Titanfall mobile games might take, though Zampella tells VentureBeat that the first will not be a first-person shooter. It will, however, "take the gameplay in a new direction," according to the report. For now, Respawn and Nexon are only officially saying that the new Titanfall mobile games will "deliver a high-quality game experience."
