[dropcap style=”style1″]S[/dropcap]ega of America says it will remove some of its older mobile games from Android and iOS app stores, explaining that some of those titles no longer meet the level of quality that players have come to expect.
Vietgame.asia – Sega won’t explicitly say which games are going to be removed from the iTunes App Store, Google Play Store and other mobile marketplaces.
On the company’s official blog, Sega said, “It is important for us to ensure that all of our fans, regardless of platform or operating system, have a great playing experience and after evaluating our complete list of titles, we have determined that a number of them no longer meet our standards.”
While those unspecified titles will be removed, Sega says some may return “in an updated form.” Sega says that players who have purchased those delisted games will still be able to download and play them — until such time as those older games become “incompatible with the latest phone operating systems or hardware.”We reached out to Sega for a list of titles it plans to remove, but the company only offered the following statement:[su_quote]”A number of titles in our mobile catalog date back to the earliest iterations of devices. Mobile gameplay along with technological advancements have given players high expectations for what they should expect. Therefore it is in the best interest of players that we are investigating in our games and will remove the titles that no longer fit the mark we aim to reach. The on-going focus of our mobile games business is to treat our legacy IP with the utmost care, while also creating new titles that appeal to the modern mobile audience.”[/su_quote]Some of Sega‘s older iOS games are ports of Sega Genesis titles, including Altered Beast, Virtua Fighter 2, Golden Axe and Streets of Rage, which use onscreen virtual gamepad controls and often don’t represent those classic games very well. Many of those Genesis ports are five years old or more.
Sega has updated some of those Genesis titles over the years, particularly its Sonic the Hedgehog games.[su_icon_panel background=”transparent” border=”1px none #cccccc” shadow=”0px 0px 0px #eeeeee” icon=”icon: html5″ icon_color=”#1f6dc9″ icon_size=”70″ url=”http://www.sega.com/”][/su_icon_panel][su_icon_panel background=”transparent” border=”1px none #cccccc” shadow=”0px 0px 0px #eeeeee” icon=”icon: facebook-square” icon_color=”#1f6dc9″ icon_size=”70″ url=”https://www.facebook.com/Sega”][/su_icon_panel]Thanks, Polygon.
