The reason for this miraculous success comes from touchscreen control, a unique feature that grants faster response and easier manipulation over the game than PC’s mouse. Tower defense also has other varieties, such as tower offense and castle defense.

Movie fans, especially horror films, should be well awared of Evil Dead, a classic horror of all time. Although the third episode, Army of Darkness, was intentionally made into a comedy, it’s still a good piece. Combines the story of Army of Darkness and the castle defense gameplay, Backflip Studios created a unique work named Army of Darkness Defense.

+ Interesting gameplay:

Tower defense and castle defense certainly share one thing in common: defense (it’s a joke) your base from waves of attacking enemies. As the names suggest, you build towers in strategic points to fend of the enemies in tower defense. But in the same time, you recruits your own army and control a Hero to rampage through the battlefield.

In Army of Darkness Defense, the player is given control of Alan, the protagonist from the movie. He cut one of his arms to dispel a curse in the movie, then weld a chainsaw to replace the lost arm. So, in the game, this one badass Hero is your man to command, against the hordes of  the Undead. Throughout the game, you will unlock more upgrades and units to have better choices. For example, the cavalry is expensive, but very effective against enemy archers, or, the combination of priests constantly healing armored soldiers is invincible.

In order to reinforce the defense of your castle, other constructions are available, such as archer towers and pitfalls. Alan himself is a useful unit, since he could learn different spells, from area damaging shots to mass healing…[space space_height=”20″]

The movie itself is already a masterpiece of comedy, but Army of Darkness Defense has completely pushed the level onto an entirely new level. With 2.5D graphic and a dark, yet funny atmosphere, the war against the ferocious Undeads seems to be more of a laughing stock.

The details of weapons and armors in Army of Darkness Defense are well refined, so are the background of castles, buildings and towers. You can’t stop laughing everytime Alan mis-spelled the ancient curse “Klatuu Brada N..”, which has variable effects.[space space_height=”20″]

+ Terrible balance:

Although Army of Darkness Defense possess a fine collection of variable armanents for the player to ultilize, the balance between this and that is horribly bad. For example, nobody would use the archers and lancers after 20th stages, and when you have the priests plus the two Kings – it would be wiser to invest into the blacksmith so he could generate resources faster, instead of buying cheap units.

The building upgrades aren’t better, either, since after 30th stages the enemies are surprisingly tough. Volleys from arrow towers seem like mosquito bites to them, and the pitfalls couldn’t cooldown fast enough to fend them off. Even the great Alan is terribly imbalanced, too (since he has one machinery arm, no?). Most of his skills are less useful than Wide Shot and Mass Healing, so who’d bother with them?[space space_height=”20″]
